Democracy Speaks Brings Poetry, Music, and Civic Reflection to Renaissance Park |
A free America 250 event will turn Renaissance Park into a community poetry pathway, featuring local poets, music, food, and reflections on freedom, identity, and civic life. |
Chattanooga’s America 250 celebration continues this weekend with a feature-worthy event that blends local art, civic reflection, and outdoor community space.
Democracy Speaks Civic Poetry Pathway is set for Sunday, June 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Renaissance Park. The free public event is part of Chattanooga’s broader America 250 programming, which marks the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
The project is led by Rhyme N Chatt in partnership with the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy. The launch event will feature live performances by 16 selected poets, along with music and food.
The poetry pathway is designed as a semi-permanent installation, with original work from local poets exploring themes such as freedom, democracy, identity, civic responsibility, and Tennessee’s role in the American story. Visitors will be able to use QR-coded signs to read and hear the poems, and the project also includes a way for community members to submit work for future installations.
This is a strong local feature because it is more than a one-night event. It adds a new layer of public art to Renaissance Park and gives Chattanooga residents a chance to experience civic history through local voices.
For readers looking for something thoughtful, creative, and outdoors this weekend, Democracy Speaks offers a quieter but meaningful way to be part of Chattanooga’s summer calendar. The installation is expected to remain in place throughout 2026 |
